How to create a temporary email address
There’s no account to set up. Open the page, and a temporary mailbox is created for you. Here’s how to use it well, and when to pick something else.
Create your temporary mailbox
- Open the TempMailyo home page. A quick, automatic bot check runs in the background.
- Wait a moment for your random address to appear. You don’t fill in a form or choose a name.
- Press the copy button and paste the address wherever it’s needed.
- Keep the page open. It checks for new mail every 12 seconds and shows new messages by itself.
That’s all. You don’t give a password, a phone number, or another email address.
Using it for a throwaway sign-up
A throwaway address suits something you’ll do once: reading a gated article, downloading a file, or joining café Wi-Fi. Before you paste it in, ask one question: will I ever need to log in here again? If so, use an address you’ll still have next month.
If your email doesn’t show up
- Check the address. Copy it again and make sure no characters were lost.
- Ask for a resend. Sites sometimes delay or drop the first email.
- Assume a block if nothing changes. Many sites refuse temporary domains, sometimes without telling you. See temp mail not receiving emails.
Finishing up
When you’re done, you can press Delete to remove the inbox and its messages right away. You should do this on a shared computer, because anyone using the same browser can open the inbox. If you do nothing, the inbox ends after 24 hours.
Temporary email for a company or team
A temporary inbox isn’t suitable for business use. It can’t be shared across browsers, it ends after a day, and nobody can recover it, so an account registered with it could be lost for good. For a team, use a shared mailbox or an alias on your company domain. An ex-employee’s access can then be removed, and the address stays under your control.
If you’re a developer testing sign-up emails, read temp mail for developers first.
Questions
Do I need to download an app?
No. It runs in your browser on a phone or a computer.
Can I choose my own temporary address?
No. Addresses are random, so nobody can guess or reuse someone else’s inbox.
Can I have more than one temporary mailbox?
Each browser has one inbox at a time. Pressing New address replaces the current one, and you can’t go back to the old one.
