What a disposable email address is for

A disposable email address is a real, working inbox you use once and throw away. It sits between you and a website you don’t fully trust yet, so that site’s newsletters, “we miss you” emails, and data leaks never reach your personal inbox.

Why disposable email keeps spam away

Once a company has your email address, you can’t take it back. It can be sold, shared with “partners”, or leaked in a breach years later. With a disposable address, there is nothing to take back: the inbox ends after a day, and once our cleanup deletes the address, any mail sent to it is rejected.

It also means a breach of that site doesn’t expose your real email, which is often the username for your important accounts.

Built to be safe to open

Spam and unknown senders are exactly what a disposable inbox receives, so we treat every message as hostile:

When not to use a disposable address

Use your real email for anything you need to keep: bank and payment accounts, government and health services, work, and any account where you might need a password reset later. Once a disposable inbox ends, that email address can’t receive anything again.

Questions

Is a disposable email address legal?

Using a temporary address to protect your privacy is legal in most places. Using it to commit fraud, abuse free trials, or break another service’s rules is not allowed by our terms, and may be illegal.

Can someone else read my disposable inbox?

Not by guessing the address. Reading the inbox needs a secret access token that only this browser has. Anyone using this browser on this device can see it, though, so delete the inbox when you are done on a shared computer.

How many disposable addresses can I make?

One inbox at a time per browser. Press New address to replace it. We limit how many inboxes one network can create in a short time to stop abuse.
